What Truly Drives Success?
Is it hard work, dedication, commitment, or perseverance?
It’s all of these. Yet, not everyone can consistently work hard, stay dedicated, or persevere through challenges. So, what fuels these qualities? What makes someone push beyond limits?
The answer lies in your belief system—the mental patterns deeply embedded in your subconscious. These patterns shape your actions, influence your decisions, and ultimately lead your life. You may think you’re making choices, but often, it’s your internal programming that’s steering the wheel.
Let’s explore this through real-life examples:
- Tribal women in Africa pierce their bodies with bamboo sticks—without anesthesia or medical aid. They do it willingly, believing it pleases their deity.
- People walk on burning coal during religious rituals, smiling through the pain, convinced they’re being purified.
- Muslims around the world fast for 16–18 hours daily for an entire month, regardless of climate. They do it with joy, driven by faith and devotion.
In each case, pain is overshadowed by belief. The mind, when anchored in conviction, can transcend physical limits.
The real source of motivation is your belief system. It can empower you to achieve the extraordinary. The stronger your beliefs, the stronger your personality.
The Power of Belief: Arunima Sinha’s Journey from Tragedy to Triumph
When we speak of human resilience, few stories echo louder than that of Arunima Sinha—a woman who turned unimaginable pain into an unshakable purpose.
A national-level volleyball player, Arunima faced a horrific incident in 2011. While traveling by train, she was attacked by a group of criminals who tried to snatch her bag and gold chain. She resisted fiercely, but they overpowered her and threw her out of the moving train. She landed on the railway tracks, severely injured and disoriented. Before she could even attempt to move, another train came speeding from the opposite direction.
She tried to crawl away, but her body was too broken to respond. The train ran over her left leg below the knee, crushing it beyond repair. She lost consciousness and lay there on the tracks—alone, bleeding, and helpless.
Trains continued to pass on either side of her. Her wounds were open and raw. Worms began feeding on her flesh, and rats gnawed at her exposed bones.
By morning, someone finally spotted her and rushed her to a local hospital. From there, she was transferred to Delhi for advanced treatment. Doctors had no choice but to amputate her leg to save her life.
It was a miracle she survived.
Lying in a hospital bed, with her leg gone and her body shattered, Arunima didn’t sink into despair. Instead, she looked up and said:
“God must have saved me for something special. I will climb Mount Everest.”
After being discharged, she reached out to Bachendri Pal, the first Indian woman to climb Mount Everest. When Bachendri saw Arunima’s condition and the fire in her eyes, she said:
“My child, with this resolve, you’ve already climbed Everest. The world just needs the date.”
And she did it. On May 21, 2013, just two years after her accident, Arunima stood atop Mount Everest. Since then, she has conquered the highest peaks on every continent—including Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Kosciuszko, Aconcagua, Denali, and Vinson.
Her Body Was Broken, But Her Mind Was Invincible
Arunima’s story is not just about physical endurance—it’s about the power of belief. Her body was torn apart, but her mental strength, her faith, and her unshakable resolve carried her to heights most people never dream of.
She didn’t climb Everest with her legs.
She climbed it with her mind.
The mind is a powerful force. It can enslave us or empower us. It can plunge us into the depths of misery or take us to the heights of ecstasy. Learn to use the power wisely.
